It is a descendant of King Cheng of Zhou, with the ancestor being Dan Bo (Ji Zhen), and is the 183rd contemporary surname in China. The ancestors of the Dan family, who immigrated to the Hongdong Pagoda Tree in the Ming Dynasty, were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other regions. In the early Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to migrate to different places in the Hongdong Pagoda Tree. Prefectures with the single surname mainly include Nan'an County and Henan County. Nan'an County: In the fifth year of the Zhongping reign of Emperor Ling of the Eastern Han Dynasty (188 AD), a portion of the original Longxi County was separated and established as Nan'an County.
