The ancestors of the Lu family who immigrated to the Hongdong Great Huai Tree in the Ming Dynasty were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other regions. In the early Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to concentrate on relocating the Hongdong Great Huai Tree to other places. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Liaoning, Shanxi, and other places.

The record of the surname Lu was first seen in the Surnames section of the Book of Customs during the Eastern Han Dynasty.

There are two main sources of surnames:

① Originating from taking the name of a town as a surname. According to the "General Principles of Customs", during the Zhou Dynasty, a high-ranking official of the State of Wei lived in the fiefdom of Wulu, which was located in the northeast of present-day Puyang County, Henan Province. His descendants took the fiefdom name Lu as their surname.

② Originating from the change of the Xianbei tribe's compound surname during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. According to the "Official Family Annals" in the Book of Wei, during the Northern Wei Dynasty, there was a three character surname named Aluhuan, which was changed to the Lu surname after Emperor Xiaowen of Wei entered the Central Plains.

The "Dictionary of Chinese Names" includes 5 cases of the Lu family, and the "Dictionary of Chinese Names of All Dynasties" includes 8 cases. The historical figure surnamed Lu in the Zhou Dynasty had Lu Mao Shou, who once persuaded the King of Yan, Kuai, to give up the throne to his son; In the Han Dynasty, there were deer skins and deer flags, as well as the governor of Ba County; During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, during the Northern Wei Dynasty, there was Lu Sheng, a member of the Cheng family, and the prefect of Jinan; In the Ming Dynasty, Lu Jiuzheng, a resident of Dingxing, served as a judge in Zezhou; In the Qing Dynasty, there was a deer passing through the forest, born in Dingxing and serving as the Governor General of Sichuan.

According to the seventh national census, there are 6047 people surnamed Lu in Shanxi Province, 690 people in Linfen City, and 19 people in Hongdong County.

The ancestral deity of the surname Lu is enshrined in the second altar of the Great Huai Tree Ancestral Worship Hall.

Migration: During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, the ancestor of the Lu family in Caoxian, who migrated from Hongdong, Shanxi, to Lu Jinzhong Village, Caoxian; The ancestor of the Lu family in Yun County moved from Hongdong, Shanxi to Tangfang Village, Wangjing Township, Yun County in the early Ming Dynasty.

The ancestor of the Lu family in Jining moved from Hongdong County, Shanxi Province to Lujia Village, Qufu, Shandong Province in the early Ming Dynasty; The ancestor of the Boshan Lu family moved from Hongdong, Shanxi to Lutuan, Boshan District, Shandong Province in the second year of the Ming Hongwu era.
