Zang (z) ā Ng) Surname
It belongs to the Chengji family, with the ancestors Zang Qu and Zi Zang, and is the 215th contemporary surname in China. The ancestors of the Zang family who immigrated to the Hongdong Great Huai Tree in the Ming Dynasty were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other regions. In the early Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to concentrate on relocating the Hongdong Great Huai Tree to other places. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Shanxi, and other places.
The record of the Zang surname was first seen in the "Qian Fu Lun" of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
There are two main sources of surnames:
① Derived from the surname Ji. According to the "Genealogy Summary" and "Identification of Ancient and Modern Surnames" in the "Tongzhi", during the Spring and Autumn Period, the son of Duke Xiaogong of Lu, Qun, was granted the title of Zang Yi and was known as Zang Qun. He inherited the lineage of Lu Qing, and some of his descendants had the surname Zang.
② Originating from taking ancestral characters as surnames. According to the "Surname Garden", the son of Duke Hui of Lu was named Xin, with the courtesy name Zizang. His descendants took his ancestor's courtesy name Zang as their surname.
The county titles of the Zang surname mainly include Donghai County and Dongguan County. There are two places in Donghai County:
① Originally Xue Commandery in the Qin Dynasty, it was renamed Donghai Commandery in the early Han Dynasty, located in the area of Tancheng, Shandong Province today.
② The Donghai Commandery during the Eastern Wei and Sui and Tang dynasties was equivalent to the area east of Donghai County and north of the Huai River in present-day Jiangsu Province.
The main hall names of the Zang surname include Langlingtang. Langlingtang: During the Later Han Dynasty, Zang Junweng rose up with Emperor Guangwu and fought bravely with remarkable achievements. He was granted the title of Marquis of Langling, and the court also painted his portrait in Yuntai Pavilion, along with 28 meritorious officials.

According to the seventh national census, there are 6496 people surnamed Zang in Shanxi Province, 949 in Linfen City, and 37 in Hongdong County.
The ancestral deity with the surname Zang is enshrined in the fourth altar of the Great Huai Tree Ancestral Worship Hall.
